Breast cancer is one of the most common conditions in women and has an alarmingly increasing rate. Early detection and accurate staging assessment play a crucial role in improving treatment effectiveness. At Ishii Saigon Clinic, we are proud to offer breast cancer staging services using advanced MRI technology, providing detailed imaging and the most accurate information to support the treatment process.
IS BREAST CANCER SCREENING MRI IMPORTANT?
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is an advanced imaging diagnostic method that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. For breast cancer, MRI is particularly useful in:
- Accurately assessing the size and extent of the tumor: Helps identify the tumor and affected surrounding tissue areas, thereby determining an appropriate treatment approach.
- Detecting lesions at an early stage: MRI has the ability to detect lesions that are difficult to see with X-ray or ultrasound, helping to identify cancer at the earliest stage.
- Examining other affected areas: Helps detect widespread lesions or those present in both breasts, especially important for high-risk cases or individuals with a family history of breast cancer.

STAGES OF BREAST CANCER EVALUATION
Breast cancer is classified into stages from 0 to IV, based on the extent of tumor development and spread. Accurately determining the stage helps doctors provide the most appropriate treatment plan for each patient.
- Stage 0: Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) – This is the earliest stage, when cancer cells are only present inside the ducts or lobules of the breast and have not spread to the surrounding tissues.
- Stage I: Invasive cancer of small size (less than 2 cm) that may not have spread to the lymph nodes or has spread to only a very small number of nearby lymph nodes.
- Stage II: The tumor is larger (2-5 cm), or the cancer has spread to multiple lymph nodes near the breast but has not spread to other parts of the body.
- Stage III: The cancer has more extensively invaded breast tissue and nearby lymph nodes and may affect adjacent tissues or organs. However, at this stage, there are still no signs of distant metastasis.
- Stage IV: Metastatic cancer – Cancer cells have spread to other organs of the body, such as bones, liver, lungs, or brain. This is the most severe stage and requires a complex treatment regimen.
Accurate diagnosis and staging of breast cancer play a crucial role in determining the most effective and optimal treatment approach for each patient.
